A bit about myself and my recent move to Prague
Background
Hello! My name is Isabel. I recently moved to Prague with my husband, Gabe, and our dog, Sybil.
Before this, we lived in Chicago. I was working as a customer service representative and getting my master’s degree in professional writing, and Gabe was finishing his PhD in particle physics. In our free time, we goofed off and tried to make Sybil less crazy.
My Past Abroad
Previously, I studied abroad in Serbia (2016), I taught English in South Korea (2018-2019), and I did a Fulbright in Kosovo (2019-2020).
Moving abroad feels familiar to me, but Prague is totally new! We moved here for Gabe’s work (he is a postdoc at a university).
What Am I Doing in Prague?
For now, I’m taking a break from working and school! I’m thinking of it as a sabbatical and time to reset, since I was so insanely burnt out in Chicago.
I’ll be exploring the city, meeting new friends, and making Sybil a Prague dog.
Why Substack?
I wanted a way for friends and family to keep up with us in Prague, and also have motivation to keep writing regularly.
As I get going here, I’m aiming to post every 2 weeks on Fridays. I’ll write about getting adjusted, our daily life, and things I notice about the city.
